Simple syrup is a common ingredient in many drinks. Making it is easy: equal parts sugar and water, boiled until dissolved.
Makes 1 cup simple syrup.
Ingredients:
1 cup filtered or spring water
1 cup granulated sugar
In a small saucepan, add the water and bring to a boil. Add the sugar, whisking to incorporate.
Lower heat and simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved and the liquid is slightly thickened, about three minutes. To check if the sugar is completely dissolved, dip a spoon in the liquid. Slowly pour it back into the pan. There should not be any sugar crystals in the syrup.
Once fully dissolved, remove from heat and let cool. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Variant: Drop four cinnamon sticks into the water and get cinnamon sugar syrup. Add a cup of fresh mint to the water and strain to get minted sugar syrup. Use double as much sugar as water for very thick simple syrup, sometimes called bar syrup.
